Online psychotherapy
I provide Online psychotherapy, also known as Telehealth, to Idaho residents or anyone who is within the state of Idaho during the time of our sessions. Most insurances cover telehealth, and even some are so embracing it that they provide reduced copays under certain plans (please verify this with your particular plan). However, there are some insurance companies that have a few more hoops to jump through regarding this model of service delivery. As time goes by and insurers catch up to the level of technology we are all already comfortable with, these speed bumps in the process will eventually go away.
For clients choosing to not use insurance and pay out of pocket, there are no restrictions at all to the format of therapy you choose to access, which gives you as the client more control of what feels comfortable in terms of the services you want.
What can I expect?
Our first online session will include gathering information on your current issues, history taking about you and getting to know you as a person, a short assessment and an opportunity for you and I to discuss your concerns regarding counseling; we will explore your strengths and create a plan for you to successfully reach your goals. This session typically takes an hour.
All subsequent online sessions last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. On average, clients meet weekly and may then progress to every other week, when they feel they are moving towards managing their lives successfully with fewer emotional triggers or setbacks. You'll find your online sessions private, easy to use, and very accessible to you each time we meet.
I use a secure, HIPAA compliant online teleconferencing platform called VSEE. It is designed especially for healthcare purposes. Think Skype, but with a priority on privacy and security. It’s one easy download after I send you the invitation link. VSEE works on any computer with a good internet connection and smartphones as well (remember to be on a wifi network, or you will use all your data on the call).
Is online therapy weird?
Many of my clients who were somewhat apprehensive about online therapy, mostly due to worries about not feeling as connected as they would in person, have told me that once we get going, it feels like any other session and the technology almost disappears as the conversation progresses.
How can online therapy benefit my lifestyle?
Online clients benefit from our sessions in a number of ways.
The sessions run similar to face to face meetings without the strain and stress of driving across town to meet each other.
With online therapy, you can avoid some the hindrances of face to face therapy such as, finding suitable parking or worrying about the weather because you can logon and meet virtually anywhere that allows you the privacy to speak about what's going on with you.
There's no special equipment needed other than your phone or computer. Many clients prefer this method for the ease and convenience.
It's perfect for busy professionals, stay at home parents and caregivers, and home bound clients too! And if your babysitter can't show, it's no problem. Online therapy may allow a unique opportunity for us to work together and fine tune things as they occur naturally in your life. Online therapy offers so many benefits for so many people. It's a game changer!
